The American Disibility Act was inacted to assist those with disibilities.  It was placed into law in 1990.  The act prohibits discrimination and ensures equal opportunities for persons with disabilities in commercial facilities, employment, transportation, public accommodations and government services. 

Many local businesses are ADA accessibile.  However some are not.  Awareness is important!  If your favorite local business is not accessible, please make them aware of the federal laws associated with the ADA.  Some of our favorite accessibile facilities include Backdoor Gallery, Tri-County Feeds, Outback Steakhouse and Harris Teeter.

Most local jurisdictions in the Commonwealth of Virginia have a local Disibility Services Board.  You may also contact them regarding local accessibility issues.

HC Parking Spaces.  We have all seen them.  Few have used them.  Please do not use them unless you are legally allowed to use them AND have a need to use them.  Just because your spouse can use HC parking, doesn't mean you can when they are not with you.  You never know, you might need one one day!
